MEMORIES FROM A CHILDHOOD FRIEND |
February 26, 2012 |
I lived around the corner from the Hervey family residence on Dewey Street as a child growing up. Mr. Hervey epitomized for me the definition of the 'ideal dad' when I was growing up during a time when my family was in turmoil. He was hardworking, respectful, soft spoken, loyal and a gentle spirit. I was so envious of Louise and Janice! How lucky your were to have such a dad! Years later, I ran into Pauline and Richard at the hospital cafeteria where they would occasionally eat breakfast. They always seemed pleased to see me during these encounters. Pauline was always very talkative, while Richard sat and listened attentively and patiently--always the gentleman. Neither of them ever seemed to change. It is with the deepest sadness and sympathy, I send you my condolences.

Bus Driver of the Year ! |

Mr. Hervey was our bus driver for years, and he was such a wonderful "father" to all his kids on the bus. Years ago, I saw him and told him where I lived as a child, and he remembered all about me. I was also friends with Janice in school so maybe that helped too. I loved watching the video... very touching, truly exemplified the kind of dad and grandfather he was. Every man should want to leave such a legacy to his family. Thanks for sharing with the rest of us as we join his family and close friends in your sorrow.

Stories my father would tell me |
February 25, 2012 |
I was too young to remember, but my dad ( Bob Brown ) would tell me that Mr. Hervey would babysit me when I was not very old. Born in 1958 it must have been late 50's or early 60's. Knowing that, I would always make a point to say hello to him when ever I saw him. He would always ask how my dad and my sister were. When ever I go by Dewey street I sometimes think of him. It was a pleasure to know him.
